Hoarding and Clutter – 3 Amazing Tips to Release Negative Emotions

Do you ever find yourself overcome with emotion, especially when you’re decluttering? Have you ever felt so overwhelmed by negative emotions that you couldn’t function? Many times my clients have told me that they experience a trigger emotion that leads to a flood of past emotions that can be absolutely overwhelming. I will help you identify what is causing your negative emotions and give some tips that can help you release those emotions. Ultimately, this can free you from the negative emotions that have been holding you captive.

A key point is that there are different triggers. These triggers vary from person to person. Different triggers can trigger the same negative emotions. For example, one client felt negatively overwhelmed when she lost her job of 25 years. She then experienced the same overwhelming negative emotions later in life when her plans for the evening fell through.

I’ve noticed that the same trigger can manifest itself completely differently for different people. For example, a client of mine had very painful memories of childhood abuse. She demonstrated her negative emotions by comforting herself with food to the point where she became super morbidly obese to the tune of more than 800 pounds. Another client who had very similar childhood abuse expressed her emotions by being overly controlling and perfectionistic to the point that it was painful and destructive. Similarly, another client with similar childhood abuse manifested his negative emotions in clutter and hoarding.

First step: Identify your triggers

It’s important to get in touch with your emotions. It can help you recognize early on the negative feelings you may experience whenever something happens in your life. What are these negative emotions? What do they feel? Where are they in your body? where are they from How did they get there? And most importantly, what can I do to change them?

Tip one: Switch to positive

First determine what you don’t like. Now I’d like you to take a deep breath and as you exhale, think about what exactly was really good about your day. OK you say? Yes good! There must be something good in your day. Get your mind to find the positive. At least one! Now think about it and breathe. After you’ve had a moment of positive emotional recharging, if you still feel like you can’t shake those negative emotions. I have a little tip that has helped so many and can help you too.

Tip Two: Release of negative emotions

This form of release is akin to purging the innermost negatives of the soul. Find the nearest and dearest kind listening ear and tell them they don’t need to fix anything. All you need is an ear to listen or a good journal to write in. Now reach deep within and search the innermost part of your being. Identify all those emotions that have kept you locked up deep within your soul.

These negative emotions seem to be lurking just below the surface, waiting for something or someone to come along and stir them up. Now have him listen or write in your journal. Take it out. Release all those things from the past to the present that trigger these emotions and identify them.

Go on an emotional release for about 5 minutes. Anything more may just be too overwhelming for you and your listener. And I’m sure by then your hand will be tired from writing if you use a journal.

Tip Three: Close your eyes and pull the negative emotions out of your body

It is best to be a place where it is quiet and you can relax. Gently close your eyes. Take a deep breath and relax. Now think about where you are experiencing the negative emotion. Imagine what size it is and what color it is. When you find it, imagine reaching into yourself and starting to pull it out. Keep doing this until you feel the release. You may feel a change in emotions. You may also feel drained or empty. If you feel an emptiness, I suggest you fill that emptiness with love and light. This can be done when you need it and can only take a few minutes. Feel free to experiment with this technique and adjust it to suit your needs.

Now take a deep breath and see if you feel a little lighter. You may even experience a sense of overwhelming joy. You may even feel that you are freeing the soul from its shackles. You may notice that you can breathe more deeply. Your head, chest, or body in general may feel lighter, and so can your mood.
